为了激发同学们学习英语的热情,提高同学们的英语口语水平,伟德国际1946源于英国外籍教师为大一新生组织了一次丰富多彩的第二课堂活动,其内容如下:
On Saturday, March 17th, 2012, the ELIC English speaking foreign teachers of NEFU hosted a St. Patrick’s Day library party for the freshmen English major students in their office. ELIC, currently celebrating its 30th anniversary in China, has been partnering with NEFU to provide foreign teachers since 1984. Nearly 30 students attended the event, with representation from each of the four classes. The purpose of the event was primarily to introduce the freshmen students to the English library that the ELIC foreign teachers make available to all English major students and teachers, but also to give the students a taste of an English-speaking environment, which is regularly available in the office. There are hundreds of books and magazines of all types, including listening materials, which the students can check out for 2 weeks at a time, giving the students a great opportunity to improve their English outside of class. The students played games and completed activities centered on St. Patrick’s Day (a traditionally Irish holiday celebrated on March 17th), while at the same time enjoying some homemade cookies. Of course, it was also an opportunity for the students to meet teachers who do not actually teach their classes but will be in the library at least once a week to answer questions, chat, or help make suggestions for improving their English levels. In addition, this event served as a way to inform students of a new book club that Lizzie Talcott, their foreign teacher, will be hosting each week. The students will be reading and discussing new books each week, helping to continually immerse them in different English environments. In addition to Lizzie, Steven Yue, Ben and Bridget Watson and their two children Iain and Allister were also in attendance at the party, which was a complete success. The library is open every Monday and Tuesday from 12:00-1:30, and every Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30-5:00.
